Description
Stafford Pharmacy & Home Healthcare is an independent pharmacy
embracing the expanded scope of practice for community pharmacists in
Alberta. We also provide compounding services for both human and
veterinary patients. We are a destination for home healthcare products
with a registered nurse and home healthcare consultants on staff.
We are currently seeking our next team member: Clinical Pharmacist.
Your clinical community pharmacist duties will include but are not limited to:
- Working collaboratively with patients’ physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure positive drug therapy outcomes
- Conducting health screening
- Engaging in community outreach programs,
- Conducting in-pharmacy immunization clinics
- Performing medication reviews and patient care plans as per the provincial standards
- Applying the full scope of practice as a clinical pharmacist in Alberta
- Patient counseling on the selection and use of non-prescription medication
- Administering vaccinations, medications for injection – subcutaneous, intramuscular
- Ensuring accurate pharmacotherapy
- Supervising and consulting with registered technicians compounding
prescribed pharmaceutical products for both human and veterinary
patients - Advising patients and health care professionals on the indications,
contra-indications, adverse effects, drug interactions, and dosage of
medications - Maintaining medication profiles of patients including patient
discussions, follow-ups, and discussions with other healthcare
practitioners - Supervising the proper preparation, packaging, distribution, and
storage of vaccines, serums, biologicals, and other drugs and
pharmaceuticals.
Requirements:
- Licensed and in good standing with the Alberta College of Pharmacy
- Strong sense of professionalism
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- English language fluency
- Fluency in any other language is a definite asset
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Superior patient and physician relation skills
- Injection Certification
- Advanced Prescribing Accreditation (APA) is preferred but will support the applicant’s pursuit of APA
- Excellent leadership and performance management skills are an asset
- Sincere interest in custom compounding is required with experience
in compounding a definite asset but not a requirement for employment. - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office® or equivalent (Libre Office®, Open Office®, etc.)
- Working experience with Kroll Pharmacy dispensing software is an asset
- Interest in precepting students – from both Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Technician programs
- Motivated to continue learning and expanding skills

Clinical Pharmacist, Part-Time
We currently have a position available. (January, 2024)
The position is part-time, based on approximately 15 hours per week, but will accommodate a suitable professional who might be seeking a work week more or less than the stated 15 hours. Pharmacy hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday; and 10:00am to 6:00pm Saturdays. We are closed Sundays and holidays.
Candidate must have good clinical abilities and excellent communication skills, as we are a busy community pharmacy offering a large variety of professional programs and services for patients, and prescribers. Our approach to patient care is holistic and outcome focused, as we endeavor to work with traditional and non-traditional approaches to patient care. This does not require additional certification or specialization although certification for providing drugs by injection and/or advanced prescribing certification is certainly encouraged. The most important qualifications include a willingness to learn, a natural curiosity for a better understanding of medicine and a desire to do the best for your patient.
Our obligation to the Pharmacist and the Pharmacy team, is to provide a working and learning environment where the qualifications described can be best practiced and exercised. To that end, you would be working with a solid team that consists of pharmacist, pharmacy technicians, home healthcare consultants, nurse and administrative support staff. We maintain current technologies that allows for efficient information access, solid research, patient encounter documentation and access to a wide variety of references. The professional environment and tools that we provide, are designed to meet the needs of a motivated Clinical Pharmacist, working in a busy, challenging professional practice. Our goal is to assist the Clinical Pharmacist to perform to their full potential and to give an opportunity for professional satisfaction.
The successful applicant would be expected to work a rotation that includes a share of Saturdays. There are no Sunday or holiday shifts. The position is permanent and represents approximately 45 to 60 hours per month. Remuneration is competitive and negotiable dependent on experience, certifications and/or other post-graduate qualifications.
