Unguator - Electronic Mortar & Pestle

It's finally happened, someone developed an electronic mixing machine for the pharmacy, and we have one.   They call it the Unguator, and it will mix any kind of cream, gel or ointment.  So, that's just what we do and it works!   It works so well that our technicians have learned how to use it for all our creams and gels and ointments.  In fact, if it can be mixed, it will meet the "Unguator".   As a result, the products that leave the dispensary have a quality and consistency that could never have been achieved without this tool.

This electronic mortar and pestle can mix at speeds of up to 2,500rpms for any programmed time.   It also allows us to dispense the finished preparation in the actual mixing container which is fitted with a "varionozzle" to reduce the size of the dispensing opening.   The bottom of the jar is pushed "up" thereby expressing the cream or gel, through the opening.  It therefore has the characteristics of a tube and jar, providing a very hygienic delivery system that also provides added protection to the cream, ointment or gel, which ensures the life of the finished preparation.

Ointment Mill

Ever wonder how they get those cosmetic creams and ointments so creamy smooth?  Well, we did and we found out that the ointment mill is the secret.  So, we thought we should have one too.   With this device we can  process small and large quantities of creams, ointments, pastes and gels, with any amount of active ingredient(s), bringing the final product to a quality level previously unattainable.  In particular, for active principles that are not easily placed into a topical base, this device is our way of incorporating the powdered ingredient via "brute force".  The porcelain rollers of the Ointment mill are squeezed closer and closer together, thereby reducing the particle size until fine enough to be accepted by the base.

Microsphere Lab

The addition of a small lab which is home to a four glove Microsphere unit occurred starting early January and seeing completion at the end of February, 2001.  The unit is designed to give technicians, an aseptic work environment, without the need for gowning, masks and the like.  The sophisticated equipment allows our technicians to prepare a variety of sterile products such as injectable medications, eye drops, inhalation solutions and pain medications for subcutaneous or intravenous administration.

These preparations are intended to be used for either human or animal patients.  We can therefore prepare customized formulations; duplicate items no longer available; accommodate certain patient sensitive's or allergies to specific ingredients,  or formulate our own custom solutions to various therapeutic problems, previously unsolvable.

A great tool for the 21st Century Pharmacy that we have become.  Watch for additional technologies made available to the Pharmacist as new Biotechnologies are introduced as treatment options and new technological improvements to give us smarter and smarter tools to solve various therapeutic problems.
