In July of 2000, the 89 year old Alberta Pharmaceutical Association ended, giving birth to two new organizations, the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) and the Pharmacists Association of Alberta (RxA). Where the ACP is concerned with the quality of pharmacy practice, the RxA is focused on advancing the value of pharmacists within Alberta. So for the first time in 89 years, there is an organization given the mandate to promote, to lobby and to advocate the economic self interests of the pharmacists in Alberta.
With its head office in Edmonton, the RxA represents all pharmacists in the province of Alberta, regardless of practice environment. The organization is involved in negotiating the economic self interests of pharmacists, educating government and public the value of pharmacists in our society and is also involved in providing member pharmacists with value added benefits which include preferred insurance rates, car rental packages, exclusive Mastercard membership and wholesale pricing on many professional and consumer purchases.

The changing role of pharmacists requires an innovative model for the delivery of pharmaceutical care. This model has been established by Health Outcomes Pharmacies. H.O.P. has successfully incorporated a patient focused; outcomes based approach to care that is deliverable within community pharmacy. Lead the development of web-based technologies for member communication, education and research activities. Sought out new technologies compatible with the knowledge systems being developed within the organization for purposes of member pharmacist education initiatives and the expanding research role. Involved in centralized buying for member stores to streamline purchases through partnerships with industry. Negotiated distribution contracts with Medis Health and Pharmaceutical Services to reduce total cost of inventory management. Provided leadership in the delivery of innovative marketing initiatives for the group including public awareness advertisements carried by local television station. Brought together learning programs for members, staff pharmacists and support staff including internet training, using e-mail, business promotion techniques and other programs targeting improved business practices. Designed and implemented current accounting and financial controls systems using computer-based accounting program. Created spreadsheet-based monitoring and reporting systems. Serving as treasurer for a second term. Chosen to develop industry partnerships for pharmacist continuing education programs and business development programs.

Performed all thin layer chromatographic and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance analysis of test compounds. Assisted in the radioactive labeling of test compounds with Chlorine-135 using Slow-Poke Nuclear Reactor facility. Coordinated all data collection and compiled computerized data.
